24 Illustrations for Schubert's "Winterreise"
(2007)

Franz Schubert's "Winterreise," a lieder cycle of 24 songs for voice and piano, was one of the last pieces he wrote before his death in 1828. In 2007, I made one illustration per song, limiting the materials to cut black and white paper, then making giclee prints of the collages. I strongly recommend getting a copy of the music, specifically the 1972 recording made by Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau and Gerald Moore. Forget John Lennon. Franz Schubert is the greatest songwriter that ever lived. 24 Illustrations for Schubert's "Winterreise" was shown at Cricket Engine Gallery in Oakland in 2007.

Two of the original eight complete portfolios with audio recording of this series of illustrations are available. The set consists of twenty-four archival 6" x 8" giclee prints on fancy Italian paper loosely bound in a portfolio with CD. Email me at dan[]eyeoftheblackbird[dot]net to receive one. (Many single prints are also still available.)
